TRANSIENT ABNORMAL MYELOPOIESIS: A DIAGNOSTIC DILEMMA
Abstract
Transient abnormal myelopoiesis is characterized by leukocytosis with blasts in the infant’s peripheral blood and bone marrow. TAM has some clinical and laboratory features that make it unique and distinguishable from true congential leukaemia with which it may be initially mistaken. In most instances, this unique disorder resolves spontaneously. We report a case of a newborn with Down syndrome having transient abnormal myelopoiesis.
Keywords: Transient abnormal myelopoiesis (TAM), Down syndrome (DS), acute megakaryoblastic leukaemia (AMKL).
